Donor conception from a mother and daughter

Isabel and Sarah, a donor conceived person and her mum, share their story in finding Isabel’s donor, accessing support and early disclosure of her conception status.

“I appreciated talking to a counsellor who understood donor conception, so I didn’t have to overly explain my situation.” – Isabel

“Be wholly honest with your donor-conceived children from their earliest awareness and trust the process. Love and honesty always.” – Sarah

“It’s perfectly normal to be curious about your donor(s)” – Isabel

“Regardless of the circumstances of their conception, our children do not belong to us. They are ours to have the privilege to raise and love and that includes absolute openness about their conception status.” – Sarah

“Writing a letter to a donor can be quite difficult, but a counsellor experienced in matters around donor conception can advise you on the process” – Isabel
