HFEA statement into Daily Mail investigation about sex selection

Read our statement into the Daily Mail investigation about sex selection.

“UK law is very clear that selecting the sex of your child for any reason other than preventing serious inherited illness is strictly prohibited. Any licensed UK clinic found to be offering sex selection in the UK for non-medical reasons would automatically be in breach of the law.

“We have no control over treatment taking place abroad. Although sex selection is legal in some other countries, we would be extremely concerned about any HFEA licensed centre, or any individual connected to it, promoting and facilitating such treatment.

“We will be contacting any licensed centres featured in the report, and the individuals connected with them, to fully explain the allegations.”
